What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is the massaging and use of pressure on specific areas of the feet to help heal the body and mind. The feet contain thousands of nerve endings which correspond to all the glands, organs and parts of the body. By working on specific reflex points Reflexologists can massage areas that are congested to relieve excess stress, tension and congestion. This will improve blood flow to the area, allowing the removal of waste products and toxins. The body is then able to begin healing itself.
How long does a Reflexology treatment last?
On average a treatment should take 1 hour - this will normally include a consultation at the beginning of the treatment, and sometimes feedback at the end. However, this will vary by practitioner.
How will I feel after a Reflexology treatment?
Initially you should feel very relaxed and calm, and sleep very deeply after a treatment. Some people find that the following day they may suffer from a headache, feeling thirsty or heightened emotions. This is nothing to worry about as it is a result of toxins being eliminated from your body and is a sign that the treatment has worked. With subsequent treatments these reactions will lessen as your body becomes more balanced.
How many treatments will I need?
After your first treatment and initial consultation, your Reflexologist will be able to advise you on the number and frequency of treatments that you will need. Often in the beginning it is recommended to have treatments quite frequently to reduce any tension/congestion, before switching to a 'maintenance' program.
Can I have Reflexology if I am pregnant?
Reflexologists will vary in their response to this, according to their training and experience, so it is best to speak with your Reflexologist. However, Reflexology can be very beneficial throughout pregnancy especially with symptoms such as backache, fluid retention and general relaxation and well-being.
Is Reflexology ticklish?
No! If the right pressure is used then you should not feel any tickling at all. If you feet are very sensitive to touch, some Reflexologists will be able to offer you hand Reflexology instead.
How much does a treatment cost?
On average you can expect to pay between £25-35 per treatment. This will vary by practitioner, length of treatment and region.
